FAQ : Is there voice recognition software available for closed captions?

Yes and no. Voice recognition software exists, but is not yet advanced enough to be used in captioning television programs. At the present time, it has not proved to be accurate enough. Captioners at NCI are able to attain an accuracy rate of 98%, far above the test rates for voice recognition software. It is possible that, in the future, voice recognition software will become accurate enough to be used in captioning programs.
